What to Do When Buying Your First Hookah

If you are buying your first hookah, congratulations, welcome to the hookah community! Now that you have gone through the painstaking process of picking one hookah from the thousands that are out there, take a breath, but you are not finished yet. Yes, the hard part is over, but this blog post is about all the thingsthatfirst time hookah owners forget to order besides the actual hookah and shisha. It makes for a very sad customer phone call when someone gets their new hookah, gets it set up to smoke, and is instantly let down when they realize they are missing an essential piece to the puzzle. SouthSmoke.com loves to suggest items to increase your session satisfaction but we never really know if this is someone's first hookah or if they already have all their supplies at home so it is a tough battle unless a customer asks for help. RELATED - How NOT To Act At The Hookah Lounge We have put together this little checklist to help. Nothing in this is meant to make you have the best setup or spend lots of money, just purely the essentials on a budget, because after all, you are also buying your hookah too.

First Hookah Essentials

Hookah - Now a days, the majority of hookahs will come as a set. This means it will come with a bowl, tongs, hose, and grommets. It is also worth noting, purchase a hookah that is within your budget. Think of it like purchasing a car, very few of us were fortunate enough to have our first car be an expensive brand new one. When the time is right, you can always upgrade. This doesn't mean go out and purchase the cheapest hookah you can find either! Charcoal - This is a biggy, you can't forget the coals! Now we are not going to get into different coals extensively, but you will need to pick a path, Quicklights or Naturals. Quicklights are easy to use, there is no denying that but natural coconut coals will give you a more enjoyable session. If you do choose to go with natural coals you will need a hot plate or burner to get them started. Foil/Charcoal Screen - Using kitchen aluminum foil is not really suggested by anyone that has been around a hookah for long. Get a pack of legit hookah foil or you can even get a charcoal screen instead of foil. We will say that foil is a much more popular way to go. Mouth Tips - Now this is only an essential if you plan on sharing that hose. There is no need to share unwanted germs with friends! Just know that there are generally two types, wide and narrow. One goes inside the hose tip and one goes over the outside of the hose tip. Contact SouthSmoke.com customer service and ask what type of tips are best for your hose. Shisha - Don't forget the shisha! Go wild and have fun! We even have tobacco free shisha options. SouthSmoke.com customer service is here to help you so don't hesitate to call! We love to set new hookah owners up properly and contribute to that first smoke!
